Job Specification – Groundworker / Machine Driver

Location: Cheltenham

Project: Installation of 9 Electrical Vehicle Charging Stations

Contract Type: Temporary / Fixed-Term / Permanent – adjust as needed

Working Hours: e.g. Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:00, with potential overtime

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Groundworkers / Machine Drivers to support the civil works associated with the installation of nine EV charging stations in Cheltenham. The role will involve excavation, ducting, trenching, and reinstatement works, along with safe operation of plant machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out groundworks to required specifications, including:
  • Trenching, ducting, backfilling, and reinstatement.
  • Concrete bases, foundations, and hard landscaping.
  • Installation of cable routes and draw pits for electrical connections.
• Operate plant and machinery safely and efficiently (e.g. 360 excavator, dumper, roller).
• Work closely with electricians and site management to ensure EV charging infrastructure is installed to standard.
• Read and interpret site drawings and work instructions.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Adhere to all site safety procedures and company policies.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Groundworker on civil engineering, utilities, or EV charging station projects.
• Valid CPCS or NPORS 360 Excavator ticket (up to 10T or above, as required).
• Additional plant tickets desirable (dumper, roller).
• CSCS card (essential).
• Streetworks (NRSWA) ticket advantageous.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Strong awareness of health & safety.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Previous experience on EV charging infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of reinstatement to highways/footpaths.
• First Aid certification.
