School Caretaker / Site Manager – Chelmsford – 13- 15 ph (DOE)

We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking Caretaker / Site Manager to join our friendly team, a successful independent school for children aged 3-11 right in the heart of Chelmsford. This role is all about helping us maintain a safe, welcoming and well-kept environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Hours: 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday

What the job involves:

• Day-to-day care and upkeep of the school site
• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance (painting, carpentry, basic DIY, gardening)
• Making sure the site is secure, safe and tidy
• Helping with building checks and compliance tasks
• Managing contractors and supporting school staff with site-related needs
• Occasionally dealing with emergencies or out-of-hours work

What we’re looking for:

• A practical, hands-on person with good DIY and maintenance skills
• Someone flexible, proactive and who takes pride in their work
• Basic computer skills and an understanding of health & safety
• A full driving licence (essential)
• Experience in a similar caretaker, handyman or site manager role (ideal, but not essential if you’ve got the right skills and attitude)

The details:

• Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday (some flexibility and occasional out-of-hours work required)
• Salary: Competitive, based on your experience and qualifications
• Contract: Permanent, starting as soon as possible (subject to checks)
