Earlier on today I was sitting down with the owner of a 5m turnover business in Loughborough. He’s from a fit-out background having worked with probably the most established office fit-out contractor in the country at the moment. So he’s all about process and focussing on the minor details. The company are looking to achieve 20m in turnover in the next 3 years and you will be an integral part of that.

However, their business has taken another direction into property development, high end residential (swimming pools, lifts etc), student accommodation and apartments. They’ve also recently won a 4 year framework with a prestigious university in the East Midlands.

This is where he’s asked me for some help to find some people with good build knowledge. He wants a Quantity Surveyor to support his operational teams. Although this wouldn’t be a pure surveying role it would cover all commercial responsibilities such as procurement, surveying, estimating, JCT contract knowledge.

Most of all he’s looking for someone with good build knowledge bringing projects out the ground but also the right character. Someone ambitious enough to sit on the board of the company and help them grow to 15m turnover within 3 years.

The Role

• Assist in the preparation, processing and selection of estimates, bids, and tenders to demanding timescales.
• Assist in the development of the procurement programme.
• Prepare and monitor cash flow forecast for designated projects.
• Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment to the Client/Client’s representative.
• Prepare monthly valuation reports
• Submit invoices for certified value and ensure payments are received on time.
• Value and authorise payments to sub-contractors.
• Liaise with Contract Managers to establish the project specification and requirements.
• Attend and contribute to meetings with work colleagues and or Clients/Customers when necessary, building relationships and demonstrating excellent communication skills.
• Monitor the contract progress, assess, and report any changes that may affect project costs and or time scale.
• Assist in the control of contract budgets.
